SUVA, Fiji (March 18, 1998 - PACNEWS/Ioane)---Fiji's Minister of Home Affairs, Paul Manueli, says over 3,300 foreigners with work permits are employed in Fiji's private sector.

Manueli provided the figures in Fiji’s Lower House Thursday when he replied to questions from Labor MP Vinod Maharaj about expatriates working in Fiji, Island Networks Corporation reports.

Employers wanting to hire expatriates, he said, must first have advertised the positions locally.

When employers recommend the hiring of expatriates, the overseas workers must satisfy established hiring requirements and obtain the approval of a government work permit committee headed by the Secretary of Home Affairs.
