TARAWA, Kiribati (March 29, 1998 - PACNEWS)---A team of road construction workers is heading from Tarawa to the southern Kiribati islands of Beru and Nikunau to conduct a survey of the islands' main roads.

The team will assess the extent of road damage and project repair costs before actual construction work begins, Radio Kiribati reports.

The Kiribati Public Works Department says Beru and Nikunau are the final locations in the first phase of the Micronesian nation's outer island road improvement project.

Survey and repair costs are being funded by the national government at a cost of more than a million dollars.
