PARIS, France - (April 6, 1998 - Radio Australia)---A delegation from New Caledonia's anti-independence PRCR party has gone to Paris to join negotiations on the territory's political future, after initially refusing to attend.

The pro-French delegation was expected to fly to Paris last Wednesday, but refused to make the journey after a dispute with the pro-independence FLNKS. The pro-independence delegation traveled to Paris as scheduled and began renewed negotiations with the French government.

The goal of the Paris talks is to formulate a referendum question on New Caledonia's future political status. The referendum is required to be held the Melanesian area territory this year.
