SUVA, Fiji (April 12, 1998 - Radio Australia/Tohi)---Fiji’s newest political party, the National Unity Party, has held coalition talks with the Fiji Labor Party.

The National Unity Party was officially launched April 4 in an effort to achieve more representation of Ba province in the national Parliament, Radio Australia reports.

Party Secretary General Apisai Tora said a four-hour meeting April 6, with Labor leader Mahendra Chaudhry, had been fruitful.

Chaudhry and Tora said there appears to be no impediment to the two parties forming a coalition to contest next year’s national elections.

The two parties have many policies in common, Tora said, and could work well together.
