MAJURO, Marshall Islands (April 16, 1998 - Marshall Islands Journal)--- Continental Micronesia's plan to cutback service to the Marshall Islands has been delayed at least until September, according to Foreign Minister Phillip Muller.

The move buys time for RMI officials to step up lobbying efforts with U.S. officials to increase the availability of refueling stops for Continental on Johnston Island, a major problem for the airline, Muller said.

Micronesian leaders will fly to Houston next month to meet directly with top Continental executives about the announced reduction in services in an effort to get Continental to maintain its Island Hopper service.

Muller said that Continental officials had just informed him that the cutback, originally announced for April, is now delayed until at least September.
