CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (April 15, 1998 - Christchurch Press)---New Zealand and Australian foreign ministers will attend the signing of a cease fire agreement on Bougainville this month as Australian troops prepare to take over a peace monitoring group on the war-ravaged island.

Papua New Guinea Bougainville Affairs Minister Sam Akoitai said New Zealand Foreign Minister Don McKinnon and Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer would attend the cease fire ceremony at Arawa in central Bougainville on April 30.

A spokeswoman for Mr. McKinnon said the Minister would witness the signing and speak to the parties about the peace process.

The cease fire follows nine months of talks between leaders of the island's warring factions, which culminated in the signing of the Lincoln Agreement at Lincoln University in Christchurch last December.
