HONIARA, Solomon Islands May 12, 1998 - Radio Australia)---An ethnic Chinese member of the Solomon Islands Parliament has expressed concern in the legislative body about the attitudes of some government ministers towards the local Chinese community.

The opposition MP for Central Honiara, Moon Pin Kwan, said the attitudes of certain ministers were not the leadership qualities that should be demonstrated in Parliament.

Mr. Kwan was reportedly responding to comments by Deputy Prime Minister Sir Baddeley Devesi and others, who criticized local Chinese businessmen in Parliament.

He said members of the Chinese community were pioneers in the country's business sector, and he assured the government that they will always be partners in building the Solomon islands nation.
