PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (May 15, 1998 - Radio Australia)---The International Federation of the Red Cross will soon begin its new program of assistance to the people of Bougainville.

The Head of the IFRC in Papua New Guinea, Ian Logan, says the 12-month program will include village reconstruction packs, primary health care, water and sanitation and social programs.

Under the village reconstruction packs, tools will be provided to people to rebuild homes, while the primary health care will support authorities in the reconstruction of health centers, bush clinics and essential drugs.

Mr. Logan said three expatriate delegates of the Red Cross and 15 locally engaged staff will be responsible for the distribution of services under the new Bougainville program.
