NUKU'ALOFA, Tonga (May 19, 1998 - PACNEWS)---Samoa's Polynesian Airlines will begin new service next month from Tonga to Wellington, New Zealand and Melbourne, Australia.

The inaugural flight will leave Tonga's Fua'amotu airport June 10 for Wellington, before continuing on to Melbourne, Radio Tonga reports. Return service from Melbourne and Wellington will operate the following day.

The weekly round-trip flights will operate under a commercial agreement with Royal Tongan Airlines.

Polynesian's chief executive officer, Richard Gates, says the new service will honor the 80th birthday celebration of Tonga's King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV in July.
