NAURU CELEBRATES ITS 30TH CONSTITUTION DAY

YAREN, Nauru (May 24, 1998 - PACNEWS/Ioane)---Nauru celebrated the 30th anniversary of its Constitution last week with a fishing competition in which a record number of 37 boat entries took part.

The Nauru Fisheries and Marine Resources Authority awarded three prizes in the categories of most fish caught, most variety of fish caught and heaviest fish caught, Radio Nauru reports.

Winner of the most fish caught was Aurob Agiangang & Company, which docked in with 47 fish. The group won $A 300 ($US 188), a trophy and medallions.

The most variety of fish event was won by Calvert Ephraim &Company, which came in with five kinds of fish. Ephraim and his team won $A 200 ($US 125), a trophy and medallions.

The heaviest fish event belonged to Bibidok Itaia & Company for its catch of a 10.5 kilogram (23.1 pound) barracuda. The prize consisted of $A100 ($US 63), a trophy and medallions.

The Constitution Day celebrations concluded with a community barbecue.
