VANUATU AIRLINE REDUCES AIRFARES AND FREIGHT CHARGES

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (June 8, 1998 - PACNEWS/Ioane)---The Board of Directors of Vanuatu's domestic airline, Vanair, has approved a reduction in airfare and freight charges.

Airfares have been reduced 10 percent, while freight charge reductions range from 30 to 40 percent, Radio Vanuatu reports.

One of the board members, Paul Fred, says the monthly allowance paid board members also has been reduced. A board member who previously received 70,000 vatu ($US 9,258) a month now will receive 50,000 vatu ($US 6,613).

The airline chairman's allowance, Fred says, has been reduced by over 50 percent, from 200,000 vatu ($US 26,452) to 70,000 vatu ($US 9,258).
