PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (June 11, 1998 - Radio Australia)---Papua New Guinea's most powerful industry lobby group has questioned the wholesale changes the Skate Government is making to senior positions in the PNG bureaucracy.

Radio Australia correspondent Sean Dorney reports that in its latest newsletter, PNG's Chamber of Mines and Petroleum says the constant reshuffling of departmental heads is creating a very unstable and uncertain environment.

"In a glowing tribute to the sacked Secretary for Mineral Resources, Robin Moaina, the President of the Chamber of Mines and Petroleum, Dr. Moseley Moramoro, said the industry was concerned that his removal would further damage the morale of the staff of the Mining Department who were already under considerable pressure.

"Mr. Moaina was dumped in favor of a former diplomat who has no experience in mining.

"Dr. Moramoro says it is very disturbing that the Skate Government is removing experienced and capable departmental heads and managers right across the public service, usually for political motives.
