PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (June 30, 1998 - Radio Australia)---Papua New Guinea's government tourism organization has taken over responsibility for the offices in Frankfurt and Los Angeles that Air Niugini is abandoning.

Air Niugini announced recently that it was closing its representative offices in Europe and North America to reduce costs.

However, the Chief Executive Officer of the PNG Tourist Promotion Authority, Kevin Byrne, says it is important for the tourism industry in PNG that the offices remain open. The Authority will keep them operating, he says, at least until the end of the year.
