HONIARA, Solomon Islands (July 1, 1998 - PACNEWS)---The Solomon Islands capital, Honiara, long considered the dirtiest town in the South Pacific, has been getting a major a facelift during the past few weeks.

The clean-up is in preparation for the Solomon Islands' 20th anniversary of independence celebrations and the inaugural Melanesian Arts and Cultural Festival, which will be attended by dignitaries from throughout the region.

Minister of Home Affairs, the Reverend Leslie Boseto, has appealed to businesses and Honiara residents to all help with a final clean-up and beautification effort before the start of the week-long festivities on Friday.
