PORT VILA, Vanuatu (July 15, 1998 - PACNEWS/Tuqiri)---Education authorities in Tuvalu expect to award 100 scholarships to students next year for further secondary and tertiary level study at Pacific Islands region academic institutions.

The Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Lotoala Metia, said the scholarship proposal has been submitted to the Tuvalu Cabinet for consideration.

Metia is monitoring the progress of the students under consideration, including communicating with their professors.

Following his meeting with officials and Tuvaluan students attending academic institutions in Fiji and the University of the South Pacific’s Emalus Campus and Malapoa College in Port Vila, he said he was satisfied with their performance.

Metia left today for Honiara and will proceed to New Zealand after talks with officials and Tuvaluan students studying at the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education.
