PORT VILA, Vanuatu (July 30, 1998 - PACNEWS/Tuqiri)---The Mobil Oil Company has been awarded a three-year contract from the Vanuatu government to supply all government fuel needs in the capital of Port Vila and the town of Luganville on Espiritu Santo island.

Mobil won the contract after both British Petroleum and Shell Pacific informed the government that they would not be able to recover capital investments if granted the contract.

The chief of Vanuatu's Department of Energy, Leo Moli, said Mobil had a bidding advantage because it already has fuel storage facilities at Public Works depots in Port Vila and on Malekula and Tanna islands.
