ALOFI, Niue (July 31, 1998 - Radio Australia)---All schools have been closed in Niue, to prevent any further spread of an outbreak of rheumatic fever.

Two school children were diagnosed with the disease last week and health authorities say a growing number of people appear to have caught the fever.

Diagnostic equipment will be sent to Niue from New Zealand to help manage the situation.

The Niue Ministry of Health has urged people to seek medical attention if fever and joint inflammation symptoms develop.
