NEW SCHOOLS TO BE BUILT IN KIRIBATI

TARAWA, Kiribati (August 5, 1998 - PACNEWS/Tuqiri)---The construction of four new secondary schools, funded by the Australian government, is expected to begin soon in Kiribati.

Senior Education Officer Tokam Tataua said the schools will be built on the islands of Marakei, North Tarawa, Abemama and Tabiteuea.

Construction is expected to be completed before the end of next year.

Plans to build an additional five schools on Kiribati's other islands, through local funding, also are being considered, Tataua said.
