HONIARA, Solomon Islands (August 10, 1998 - PACNEWS/Tuqiri)---The Solomon Islands national flag carrier, Solomon Airlines, has recorded a profit for the third consecutive fiscal year.

Chairman for the airline's board of directors, Stephen Tonafalea, said the company registered a profit of more that SI$ 2,300,000 ($US 489,000) for the 1997 fiscal year, representing a 21.7 percent increase over the previous year's profit of nearly SI$ 2 million ($US 421,250).

Tonafalea said 1997 profits would have been higher had there not been the recent devaluation of the Solomon Islands currency.
