PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (August 26, 1998 - Radio Australia)--- Children who survived the recent tidal wave disaster in Papua New Guinea but lost their parents will be cared for under a planned Orphan Sponsorship Scheme.

The Chairman of the National Aitape Relief and Restoration Committee, Paul Raptario, said an official has been sent to the disaster area to conduct a census of all surviving children.

The committee plans to pay the school fees of the Aitape orphans from primary school through university level.

Plans for the project, Raptario said, will be made final once all relevant information has been collected.
