FORMER MARSHALLS' IMMIGRATION HEAD ACCUSED OF CORRUPTION

MAJURO, Marshall Islands (August 29, 1998 - Radio Australia)---A former head of the Marshall Islands immigration department, recently retired Una Watak, has been charged with selling passports, residency permits and naturalization documents to Asians.

He also is charged with using his public office for private gain.

Watak allegedly issued a false passport to a Taiwanese citizen which was seized by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service last month in Guam.

The businessman was found to be carrying 12 new Marshall Islands passports and 19 residency and naturalization certificates back-dated to August 1996.
