VANUATU'S SECOND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO OPEN SOON

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (August 31, 1998 - Radio Australia)---Vanuatu’s Civil Aviation Department reports the country’s second international airport will begin operations in September.

A department spokesman said flight tests conducted at the Tanna Island airport in Tafea Province were successful.

The airport, which initially will only be able to handle aircraft with up to a 50 seat capacity, was built with $US 2.2 million dollars in international aid funding.
