TAIWAN APPOINTS NEW AMBASSADOR TO SOLOMON ISLANDS

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (August 31, 1998 - PACNEWS)---The Republic of China (Taiwan) has appointed a new ambassador to the Solomon Islands.

He is ambassador designate Teng Pei-Yin, who will arrive in Honiara on September 7.

Yin, who is a graduate of the National Chengchi University in Taiwan, was assigned to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in New Delhi until his Honiara appointment.

He replaces former ambassador Thomas Hsieh who was recalled last month because of alleged involvement in Solomon Islands political affairs.
