SUVA, Fiji Islands (September 3, 1998 - Radio Australia)---Fiji's Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is taking a week off from official duties, following advice from doctors.

As Radio Australia correspondent Karan Pillay reports from Suva, Mr. Rabuka is recuperating from work pressures:

"Cabinet Secretary Jioji Kotobalavu says Prime Minister Rabuka has been subjected to heavy work schedules and exhaustion in the past six months, and he says the one week's leave is a well earned rest for Mr. Rabuka.

"Just last week the Prime Minister returned from the Federated States of Micronesia where he attended the South Pacific Forum.

"He is now relaxing at a hotel resort in Nadi, Western Viti Levu, and is reported to be spending most of his time playing golf.

"Mr. Rabuka leaves for Singapore next week for an official visit. He will spend three days there before leaving for Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to visit the Fiji Commonwealth contingent. And he is also expected to be in Australia later this month. Mr. Rabuka will address a private dinner of the Fiji/Australia Business Council Meeting at the Australia Club in Sydney on September 17.

"Karan Pillay, Suva."
