TONGA TO INSTALL 15,000 NEW TELEPHONE LINES

NUKU'ALOFA, Tonga (September 3, 1998 - PACNEWS/Amy)---The Tonga Telecommunication Commission reports it plans to install 15,000 new telephone lines within the next five years.

Almost half, 43 percent, of Tonga’s 97,000 people currently have access to telephone service.

Nearly 8,000 lines now exist throughout the kingdom, a five percent increase over 1996’s 7,000 subscribers.
