SUVA, Fiji Islands (September 8, 1998 - PACNEWS/Amy)---Twenty-one Fiji Medical Council expatriate doctors' registrations expired last month and the situation is beginning to cause problems for the Ministry of Health.

The doctors, in Suva and the Western Division, now are alleged to be practicing in government hospitals without valid registrations.

Some are reluctant to prescribe drugs, because of the possibility of being charged with practicing medicine illegally.

The doctors have informed their superiors about the situation, and the matter has been brought to the attention of the Fiji Medical Council for resolution.
