JAPAN TO PROVIDE FIJI $US 10.32 MILLION IN GRANT FUNDS

SUVA, Fiji Islands (September 18, 1998 - PACNEWS/Amy)---Japan has allocated $US 10.32 million in grant funds to build a new children's hospital and support educational projects in Fiji.

The first grant, of $US 10 million, will permit construction of a new three-story, 90-bed pediatric unit at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. The funding also will provide specialized medical equipment, enabling the unit to open as a fully functional pediatric facility.

The second grant, $US 320,000 provided under Japan’s cultural and education aid program, will be used to purchase music and sports equipment for the Fiji College of Advanced Education.
