NEWS RELEASE:

September 23, 1998

Oceanit Test Systems, Inc. (OTS), a subsidiary of Oceanit Laboratories, Inc. (Oceanit), has developed Cigua-Check™, the ciguatera fish poison test kit.

Cigua-Check™ is the first commercial test kit for detection of ciguatera poison in fish and is now available directly from OTS via OTS' World WideWeb site: http://www.cigua.com.

Hawaii customers are being served by retail stores.

Since September 1997, OTS has responded to inquiries and served customers from Hawaii, U.S. mainland, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Guam, American Samoa, Marshall Islands, Tahiti, Fiji, Cook Islands, Singapore, Netherlands Antilles, Anguilla, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, etc.

Ciguatera poisoning is a serious threat to public health and fisheries development along tropical and subtropical shorelines. Often associated with coastal construction projects, the toxin is produced by the marine micro-organism, Gambierdiscus toxicus, and is passed up the food chain.

Debilitating symptoms from ciguatera poison may last from weeks to many months. Cigua-Check™ provides the only method to detect ciguatera poison in fish. This new test system offers a viable means to provide clinical diagnosis, conduct fisheries surveys, and provide assurance to fishermen.

Many years of research by Dr. Y. Hokama at the University of Hawaii have provided valuable insight into the nature of ciguatera fish poisoning. Dr. Hokama's research has enabled OTS to develop Cigua-Check™, an immunobead assay test kit that provides quick, simple, and reliable detection of ciguatera poison in fish.

OTS specializes in developing detection methods for fish poisoning and marine toxicology. Oceanit, founded in 1985 by Dr. Patrick K. Sullivan, is a Hawaii-based company specializing in environmental, coastal, civil engineering, planning, and research & development in related technologies. For the past ten (10) years, Oceanit has also been involved with ciguatera poison monitoring for various resort and coastal developments.

OTS has set-up a hotline for Cigua-Check™. Interested retailers or buyers may call (808) 539-2345 or e-mail: oceanit@oceanit.com. There are five test kits in each package of Cigua-Check™.
