VANUATU'S SECOND QUARTER EXPORTS INCREASE

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (September 23, 1998 - PACNEWS/Amy)---Vanuatu recorded an impressive increase in exports during the April-June quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year.

The value of the second quarter exports totaled 722 million Vatu (US$ 5.4 million), an increase from 592 million Vatu (US$ 4.4 million) during April-June 1997.

The increase was due mainly to higher export volumes in timber, beef and kava.
