FIJI'S NATIVE LAND TRUST BOARD LOSES 107 TO LAYOFFS

SUVA, Fiji Islands (October 5, 1998 - PACNEWS/Amy)---Fiji's Native Land Trust Board (NLTB) lost nearly half of its 256 staff members Friday to layoffs.

The layoffs were approved by the NLTB earlier this year according to board spokesman Sireli Korovulavula.

Korovulavula told Fiji's Bula Network News the 107 laid off workers were given severance pay equivalent to three months' salary and an additional two weeks' salary for each year of service.

The severance arrangement was jointly approved by the NLTB Employees Association and management.
