SUVA, Fiji Islands (October 13, 1998 - Daily Post/Pasifik Nius/Niuswire)--- Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is to step down as President of the Soqosoqo ni Vakavulewa ni Taukei (SVT) party, the Daily Post reports.

And the change in leadership is likely to be as early as this Saturday at the party's annual meeting in Suva.

The party's national executive will meet tomorrow to finalize arrangements for the expected leadership change.

But despite Mr. Rabuka relinquishing the party's presidential office, he will maintain his position as Prime Minister.

Although SVT officials were non-committal on the issue last night, it is understood that the restructure is part of the SVT's strategy to attract lost votes.
