NADI, Fiji (October 19, 1998 - Radio Australia)---The Fiji government has asked for more time to consider a claim by traditional landowners for the return of Nadi International Airport land.

Landowners from Saunaka lodged the claim, saying the land was compulsorily acquired during World War II.

They want to reclaim title to the land and are seeking compensation for its use.

Aviation Minister David Pickering said the landowners have made a good case and he will consider taking their submission to the Fiji Cabinet.

The government should be able to respond to the claim, Mr. Pickering added, before the end of this week.
