KIRIBATI GETS ITS FIRST COMMERCIAL FM RADIO STATION

TARAWA, Kiribati (October 21, 1998 - PACNEWS)---Kiribati's first FM commercial station, Newair FM 101, will be launched in the Micronesian nation later this month.

Newair FM 101 is a private station run by former Radio Kiribati Manager Atiera Tetoa, an Australia engineer and Newair Enterprises, a local company that imports timber, automobiles and other commodities.

Tetoa says everything is in place to begin operations but engineers are still working on the antenna.

The station will begin with broadcasts in the capital of South Tarawa, and then eventually expand to the outer islands. It format will concentrate on entertainment, news and advertisements.
