NUKU‘ALOFA, Tonga (October 29, 1998 - PACNEWS/Amy)---Tonga is helping Vanuatu to revive its struggling green snail breeding business by shipping 300 baby snails to the Melanesian country.

The Tongan Ministry of Fisheries agreed to send 10 baby green snails in return for each mature giant snail provided from Vanuatu.

Fisheries Officer ‘Ulungaa Fa‘anunu said Vanuatu has struggled to effectively breed and farm green snails for several years now. An identical project has been successful in Tonga.

Vanuatu initially had donated green snails four years ago, kicking off Tonga's breeding business.
