NUKU‘ALOFA'S HARBOR ENTRANCE BEING DEEPENED

NUKU‘ALOFA, Tonga (November 2, 1998 - PACNEWS/Amy)---Work is underway to upgrade the entrance to Faaua Harbor in the capital of Nuku‘alofa.

The project involves locating shallow points around the harbor and deepening them to a depth of about three meters (10 feet).

The Ministry of Works reports it expects the project to be completed by the end of January 1999.

Funding is being provided through a government loan of about 5 million pa‘anga (US$ 3.1 million) from the Asian Development Bank.

The same loan also covers various other road and port infrastructure improvement projects throughout the main islands of Tonga.
