PORT VILA, Vanuatu (November 4, 1998 - PACNEWS)---Vanuatu has suspended one immigration officer and has requested disciplinary action against two more officers over findings that indicate 167 foreign visitors entered Vanuatu without formal clearance.

The officers failed to show up to work on time, resulting in two Air Vanuatu flights from Australia entering the country without proper clearance.

The incidents occurred over two consecutive weeks.

Meanwhile last weekend, a passengers on a flight from Nadi said he waited 20 minutes before immigration officials provided clearance.

Director of International Affairs Jimmy Nipo described the incidents as very bad for the country's tourism industry.
