PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (November 9, 1998 - Samoa News)---Samoa's Host Committee, a unit of the Samoa Visitors Bureau, has been working diligently for the past three weeks making preparations for next month's 1998-1999 Miss South Pacific Pageant.

Samoa suddenly became host of the annual beauty contest after Fiji announced during the South Pacific's 9th Meeting of Ministers of Tourism last month that it would be unable to host the event because of financial difficulties attributed to a harsh drought and Asia's financial crisis.

Sources in Samoa told Samoa News that the Miss South Pacific Pageant is scheduled from November 30th to December 6th and is tentatively planned to be held at the Hotel Kitano Tusitala. However, the official headquarters for the Miss South Pacific Pageant is the legendary Aggie Grey's Hotel.

Activities are being scheduled for the contestants during the entire week, with the actual pageant to be held on the night of December 5th and the final get together of contestants on the 6th.
