PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (November 10, 1998 - Samoa News)---New work opportunities have been created with the addition of 94 jobs at the U.S. Army Reserve Center Unit.

Currently, the local unit supports two infantry rifle companies with a component of 250 soldiers.

However, in a statement yesterday, Congressman Eni Faleomavaega said, "It was necessary for American Samoa to have diversity in its military capabilities, and as such, the Department of the Army now has authorized (an additional) 37 military personnel with auto electrical system, automotive repair and maintenance skills."

Also to be added are 57 personnel with skills in such construction fields as carpentry, masonry, pipe-fitting and operation of heavy equipment, including tractors, cranes and trailers.

Faleomavaega raised the issue with U.S. Army officials four years ago, saying that in the event of hurricanes and other disasters American Samoa would need qualified, trained soldiers with automotive maintenance and engineering skills.
