PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (November 19, 1998 - Radio Australia)---American Samoa expects to become part of a settlement with American tobacco companies that will pour tens of millions of dollars into the country's economy.

Under the terms of the legal settlement, said Congressman Eni Faleomavaega, American Samoa would receive US$ 29 million between 1998 and 2025.

The tobacco companies would also be required to curb advertising and marketing activity and fund an anti-smoking campaign.

American Samoa has the choice of becoming part of the settlement, or it can sue the tobacco companies itself and take its chances in court.
