INDONESIAN FISHING BOAT OWNER CHARGED IN VANUATU

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (December 10, 1998 - PACNEWS/VBTC)---The owner of an Indonesian fishing boat found fishing illegally in Vanuatu waters has been ordered by the Port Vila Magistrates Court to pay US$ 38,000 as security, until the case appears in court next month.

Magistrate Stephen Felix has ordered the boat's captain to appear in court on January 15. If he fails to appear, Felix said, the money will be transferred to the government.

The boat was found fishing illegally off Emae Island.

It is the first Indonesian fishing boat impounded for fishing without a license in Vanuatu waters.
