Suva, Fiji Islands (December 25, 1998 - Radio Australia)---A tropical cyclone alert for Fiji has been cancelled but a gale warning remains in force for the Lau Group of islands.

Tropical Cyclone CORA has been located about 175 kilometers (110 miles) northeast of Lakeba and is moving south-southeast at about 10 kilometers (6.25 miles) per hour away from Fiji.

But the weather bureau warns damaging gale force winds with average speeds of 65 kilometres (41 mph) an hour and gusting to 85 kilometres (53 mph) an hour are expected to hit the Lau group causing periods of heavy rain and squally thunderstorms.

Flooding, including sea flooding of low lying areas are likely, and seas will be very rough to high with heavy easterly swells.
