PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (December 24, 1998 - Samoa News)---The final blow to the House Investigative Committee's (HIC) failed attempts to investigate and prosecute alleged improprieties of the Tauese administration was handed down yesterday by the U.S. Department of Interior.

The House passed a Resolution in September that petitioned the U.S. Secretary of the Interior to appoint a local lawyer to probe and prosecute improprieties identified by the House Investigative Committee during the American Samoa Government (ASG) vehicle/spare part sale

However, Allen P. Stayman, Director of the Office of Insular Affairs at the Department of Interior (DOI), in a letter yesterday to House Speaker Mailo Sao Nua, declined the petition to appoint a local prosecutor.
