SUVA, Fiji Islands (December 28, 1998 - PACNEWS)---The City Council in Fiji's capital, Suva, is concerned about the increasing number of prostitutes, children and the homeless being seen on the city's streets.

The Council discussed the problems at a meeting earlier this month.

One council member said prostitutes could be seen loitering in the city late at night.

Councilors have also asked the administration to look into the problem of street children and people who live on the streets.

One member is quoted as saying that the council is aware it cannot do much about such problems.

However, it wants to discuss them with the Social Welfare Department and other relevant authorities, to see how the needy can be helped.
