SUVA, Fiji Islands (January 1, 1999 – Radio Australia)---One year from now, 250 scuba divers from around the world will celebrate the Third Millennium by diving in at the tail-end of one century and resurfacing at the start of the next.

They will perform the feat off the remote northern Fiji island of Rabi, which is crossed by the International Dateline.

The divers will descend at 11.30 p.m. on December 31 1999 from special platforms and will return an hour later on January 1, 2000.

The project has been organized by Curly Carswell, a leading Fiji dive figure from Savusavu, on the island of Vanuau Levu.

He says his third millennium diving tours already are fully booked.
