SUVA, Fiji Islands (January 1, 1999 - Fiji Village News)---The Tourism Ministry has denied claims by landowners in Nadi who say they own the land where Nadi International Airport is located.

David Pickering said he responded to the Saunaka landowners in a letter advising them that the land in dispute legally belongs to the government.

The landowners in the Vanua Mataqali of Navatulevu had asked for compensation, claiming the land was taken from them during World War II.

The landowners have yet to respond to Pickering’s letter.
