ACCESS TO OK TEDI MINE NOW CLEAR

WESTERN PROVINCE, Papua New Guinea January 5, 1999 - Post Courier)---The Ok Tedi mine access road, which was blocked over the weekend by a major landslide, was partially cleared yesterday morning..

The copper and gold mine's public relations officer, Florian Dati, said a local contractor, Starwest, was engaged to clear the blockage.

Mr. Dati said mill and mine vehicles were using the road and by today it should be fully restored.

According to Mr. Dati, landslides are normal routine problems during the Ok Tedi area rainy season.
