FIJI GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES PERSONNEL CHANGES

SUVA, Fiji Islands (January 6, 1999 - PACNEWS)---Fiji has a new Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs as part of a major reshuffle of senior executive appointments announced today by the Public Service Commission.

Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Fiji's roving ambassador, will act as Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade.

He replaces Ahmed Ali, who is now Permanent Secretary for Information. Ali was Minister for Information in the post-coup interim government led by Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.

Nailatikau, Fiji's long-time ambassador to the United Kingdom, was replaced last year by Filimoni Jitoko, former Secretary to Cabinet.

Other appointments, including changes to diplomatic postings, are expected to be announced later this week.
