PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (January 8, 1999 - PACNEWS/NBC)---A group lobbying for Irian Jaya independence from Indonesia is organizing a boycott against all Indonesian manufactured products.

The Madang-based West Papua Action Committee is an initiative of the Melanesian Solidarity Group, an organization advocating and lobbying for independence for the Indonesian province.

The Committee is appealing to supporters of the Irian Jaya cause in Papua New Guinea and other Pacific Island countries to boycott all Indonesian products.

West Papua Action Committee Director Michael Tataki said the boycott will contribute to achieving West Papua independence, instead of to Indonesia's economy.

He said his committee will formally launch a nationwide campaign against Indonesian products in PNG next month, circulating lists of Indonesian products now available throughout the country and the shops and other businesses that stock them.
