PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (January 8, 1999 - Samoa News)---The tuna carrier "Lung Soon #128," on its first visit to American Samoa, has been boarded and detained by the local U.S. Coast Guard unit.

According to USCG Lt. Michael Sakaio, the ship was issued a "Captain of Port Order," meaning it is under detainment until all listed deficiencies are corrected.

The "Lung Soon #128" is a Panamanian flagged ship and was cited by the Coast Guard with four major deficiencies warranting detainment.

The deficiencies include unsatisfactory fire fighting drills; not having all required fire fighting equipment; sailing beyond its sailing limitation; and navigational and communicational problems between the watch and crew.
