SOLOMON ISLANDS POLICE GUARD PUBLIC UTILITIES FOLLOWING THREATS

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (January 11, 1999 - PACNEWS/SIBC)---Police in the Solomon Islands have placed public utilities under 24-hour surveillance, following sabotage threats during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Commissioner of Police Frank Short has confirmed that the Solomon Islands Electricity Authority's power stations and Telekom stations are under surveillance following the threats.

Police are not saying who made the threats.

Commissioner Short said his officers remain on alert for possible new incidents.
